"A Shepherd's Life"
Traveling Sheep and Wool Programs
During this program, we bring the history of sheep in New England to life with a live, interactive sheep shearing demonstration done with traditional blade shears. After the shearing demo, the sheep is returned to its portable pen that is set up in the school yard for the day. Children will then get a chance to meet one of our friendly border collies, and watch the sheepdog in action while she herds her ducks around the schoolyard. This portion of the program focuses on the role of predator prey relationships. Then, each group of 15-25 children will have a chance to spin and make a felted bead necklace with the freshly shorn wool, while learning about the history of sheep and wool, and an introduction to the use of simple machines. This program can be done indoors or out.
This programs is offered year round except for the months of Dec-Feb
Price $350/day plus travel, which includes shearing
